Why I Started Key West Writers Alley — and Why You Should Join

There’s something uniquely inspiring about living—or even just visiting—Key West. From the colorful sunsets to the lively community of artists and dreamers, this place practically begs you to sit down, pick up a pen, and start writing. As a writer myself, I’ve often found that while the scenery sparks creativity, it’s the conversations wi

th fellow writers that truly fuel my passion. That’s why I decided to create Key West Writers Alley—a new Facebook group where we can come together to brainstorm ideas, improve our craft, and celebrate the art of storytelling.

Whether you’re working on your very first short story or you’re about to publish your fifth novel, there’s always more to learn and explore. At Key West Writers Alley, our members enjoy:

The Heart of Key West—Inspiring Every Word

Key West has long been a haven for writers looking to capture the vibrancy of island life and the stories that drift in on the ocean breeze. By starting this group, I hope to harness that energy and bring like-minded individuals together. There’s something truly magical about sharing your creative journey in a place known for its artistic spirit.

Do you ever doubt yourself when you’re writing? I do. Recently, I paid for a review on Reedsy, hoping for some valuable feedback, but it turned out to be generic and not very helpful. Thankfully, my uncle offered to take a closer look, and his comments on my manuscript made a lot of sense. They highlighted areas for improvement but also stirred up some self-doubt. Despite that, his feedback was incredibly helpful, and he encouraged me to keep writing. It reminded me why I write in the first place—not for others, but for myself. At this stage, writing is my creative outlet, my way of expressing and exploring the world around me. To anyone else who might be struggling with doubt: keep going. Write for yourself, let it be your outlet, and never let a little doubt stop you from creating something meaningful.
